Terms of service

The agreement between you and goDocket. Written to be read, not to be skipped.

What goDocket is

goDocket is bookkeeping and invoicing software for small businesses, operated by Sean Cournane on behalf of goDocket.ie. It is provided for use in the course of your business, not as a consumer product. By creating an account you agree to these terms.

What goDocket is not

goDocket is not an accountant, a tax adviser, or your agent. Nothing it shows you is tax or financial advice. It does not file anything with Revenue on your behalf, and it does not check whether what you have recorded is correct, complete or allowable.

Your VAT returns and your tax filings are yours. Revenue holds you responsible for them, not your software. If your figures matter — and they do — have an accountant look at them.

Checking your own figures

goDocket can read receipts and bank statements from photographs and PDFs. That is a careful reading of a document, not a guarantee, and it can be wrong.

We take that seriously and build against it. Where a statement carries a running balance, goDocket adds every amount it read against that balance and will not tell you the figures check out unless they land exactly on the closing figure. When they do not, it says so, points at the line it cannot account for, and asks you to correct it. Nothing is saved until you have looked at it.

The last check is still yours. You are responsible for satisfying yourself that what goDocket has read matches your actual records before you rely on it for anything.

Your account

Keep your password to yourself and tell us promptly if you think someone else has got into your account. What happens under your login is your responsibility.

Do not use goDocket to break the law, to store other people's data you have no right to hold, or in a way that damages the service for anyone else.

Your data is yours

Everything you put into goDocket remains yours. We do not sell it and we do not use it for anything except running the service for you — see the privacy notice.

You can export your records at any time, and you should do that before closing your account, because we delete your data 30 days afterwards and cannot recover it.

What it costs

Where goDocket is offered free of charge, it is offered as it stands. If we introduce charges we will tell you in advance and you will be free to stop using it rather than pay.

Card payments your own customers make to you are handled by Stripe under Stripe's terms, and that money moves between them and you — it does not pass through us.

Availability

We work to keep goDocket running and your data safe, but we do not promise it will be available without interruption or free of faults. We may change, suspend or withdraw features, and we will give you reasonable notice where a change materially affects you.

What we are responsible for

We are responsible for loss we cause by failing to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss that was not a foreseeable consequence of us breaking this agreement, nor for loss of profit, loss of business, loss of contracts, or losses arising because figures were relied on without being checked.

Except for the things listed immediately below, our total liability to you for everything arising out of or connected with this agreement is limited to the greater of the fees you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or €100.

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else which the law does not allow us to limit or exclude. If any part of this section is found to go further than the law permits, it applies to the fullest extent that it does permit.

Ending it

You can close your account whenever you like. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, or where we are required to. If we close the service down altogether, we will give you reasonable notice and time to get your records out.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. When the substance changes we will ask you to accept the new version the next time you sign in, and we keep a record of which version you accepted and when. Continuing to use goDocket after accepting means the new terms apply.

Law

These terms are governed by the laws of Ireland, and the Irish courts have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.
